International Center for Youth Development on Technopreneurship, ICYDT, is a Uganda startup working on skills development and reduction of poverty among the youth using information technology. 

The institution’s founder Prof. Yakubu Makeri explains the startup’s business model and plans to launch an online university.

Tell us a bit about your startup

International Center for Youth Development on Technopreneurship (ICYDT) is a Uganda-based institution which advocates for youth development across different sectors.

Who are the founders and what are their professional backgrounds?

The organization was founded in 2017 by Associate Prof.Dr.Yakubu Ajiji Makeri.  The funders come from Nigeria and Uganda. The funders use their salaries to fund the organization.

Who are the owners of ICYDT?

The institution is owned by Associate Prof.Dr.Yakubu.Ajiji Makeri and Mr Roger wongyer

What are – in your opinion – the dynamics of the industry you work in?

We are into skills development and reduction of poverty among youth using information technology skills development

Why did you start ICYDT? What opportunities did you see?

The start up in the area of online university in 2021, we have good opportunity for the university in Africa. The funders have the qualification to start the university. We have good market in Africa.

Skills development

What gives ICYDT the competitive edge?

Our organization has the qualified staff on information Technology with requisite academic training.

Who are your customers?

Our customers are the youth and educational institutions across the country.

What does ICYDT need in order to grow?

We need funding for the online university, partnership and collaboration with other organizations and institutions

In which markets are you looking to establish your presence?

The university will cover the whole of Africa countries in it programs and the world

What are your plans for the coming 12 months?

To start an online university in Africa with the best programs and accreditation and collaboration with other universities around the world. We hope to have more than 5000 students within a year.
