The realme 6 and realme Band revolution in Kenya smartphone market

As preferences among a burgeoning Kenyan smartphone customer base with an affinity for spending change as the industry evolves, phone makers are burning the midnight oil to sate this appetite while bringing more utility to a market that remains prime due to its high internet penetration levels. Kenya remains ahead of its regional peers in tech absorption, which currently stands at 91 per cent juxtaposed with Africa’s average of 80 per cent.

That meteoric rise in smartphone demand and sales in this market has informed phone maker’s recent drive and competition to capture the Kenyan markets while warming consumers with state-of-the-art gizmos.

realme, the latest entrant into the East African nation has taken the market by storm with the launch of three of its flagship smartphone brands; realme C3, realme C11 and realme 6.

Realme 6 that premiered in Kenya in early September is already making waves as evidenced by the number of sales and inquiries across online shops among them Jumia Kenya.

“I love the phone. This is actually my dream phone given the features that come with it. What I love the most about this phone is its camera,” said Grace Indoshi, who shopped for her realme 6 from Jumia Kenya.

The smartphone has particularly captured the customers’ attention due to its attributes including the powerful 64Mp quad-camera, affordability, retailing at Sh29,999 shillings, and its iconic accessory, a free realme band. The Pro Camera Pro Display phone features, 90hz Smooth Display, Helio G90 T, and 30W Flash Charge. The user has the freedom of fully charging the battery within 60 minutes and 70 percent in 30mins. 

realme has also launched the realme Band that comes with 2.4cm (0.96”) large color screen, which can display a vast range of more than 65,000 colors. The band features a touch-button, enabling the display to be operated easily and intuitively and is affordably priced at Sh2,999.

“With the Band, the user can get a real-time Heart Rate Monitor, enjoy the use of the USB Direct Charge, receive smart notifications, use it as an Intelligent Sports Tracker, have access to Personalized Dial Face, Sleep Quality Monitor, as well as having the realme Link Smart App,” said realme in a statement.

Global Smartphone research firm Counterpoint in its world smartphone shipments in Q1 2020 report ranked realme top 7 globally, which has positioned the phone maker among mainstream brands worldwide. It recently gained 45 million global smartphone users across 61 markets.
